Curling Quebec Caravan Clinic Update

Due to scheduling problems, we will not be hosting Curling Quebec Caravan with Guy Hemmings this year.
For those of you still interested in fine tuning your game, we will be offering an Intermediate Clinic, in the same format as in past years.

MATTHEWS, Arnold.
Passed away peacefully on October 14, 2008, at age seventy-three, after a courageous battle with cancer. Survived by his partner Doreen, loving children, Bruce (Susan), Theresa, Danny (Glenda), Kevin and their mother, Geri, sister Ann (Jimmy), grandchildren and great grandson , nieces and nephews. Lovingly remembered by Audrey (Kenny) , Mark (Heidie), Mike (Shelly). Visitation from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2008 at Urgel Bourgie, 3955 Cote-de-Liesse, St Laurent, followed by a service in the chapel. The family wishes to thank the staff of 6 West and 4 Main at the J.G.H, especially Dr.Dworkind. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in his name, would be appreciated.

Team Gurman wins the Senior Indian Summer Bonspiel

Congrats to Team Gurman of Glenmore for winning the annual Senior Indian Summer Bonspiel, hosted by Glenmore this past Thanksgiving weekend. The team played well all weekend long, beating some of the top teams in the province. Congrats to John Gurman, Gary Leclerc, Louis St Laurent, and Bob Griffith.

NEW SUNDAY LEAGUE AT GLENMORE

Hello all...

There is a new SUNDAY league at Glenmore this year! It will be played from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday's.

This league is open to any regular member (day or evening). Sign-up will be limited to the first 8 teams or 32 players. (NOTE: A minimum of 24 players or 6 teams is required for this league to get started!) Sign up as a team or as an individual and every attempt will be made to put you on a team.

The league will consist of 3 rounds, playing an opposing team 3 times each (based on ice availability). The league winner is eligible for an award at Awards Night at the end of the season.

The goal of this league is to provide some friendly and fun competition while also providing an extra day to curl.

If you're looking for some extra curling time, and are available Sunday afternoons, then sign up! Look for sign up sheets on the downstairs bulletin board as of the Open House on Friday.

This two-night course will cover all the basics of curling:
1. the slide
2. the no-lift delivery
3. imparting the curl on the rock
4. sweeping techniques
5. simulated game play
6. etiquette and club info

This clinic is perfect for new members who want to learn how to curl. Glenmore has several certified coaches who will be on hand to give the instruction.

The annual Glenmore Open House will take place:

Friday, Sept 26, 2008 from 6pm to 10pm AND
Saturday, Sept 27, 2008 from 10am to 6pm.

This is the perfect opportunity to get re-acquainted with old members, and also introduce friends to the game and show them around the club and get them to join!

League sign-ups will also take place during this weekend.

Sadly, I must announce the passing of Fernand Belliveau, son of Ulysse and Idella Belliveau. He died early on saturday august 2nd ( generalized cancer). He was 51 years old.

For those who wish to attend, ceremonies should be held
Thursday august 07th at Alfred Dallaire's on Pierrefonds Boulevard ( near St-John boul.) from 14h00 - 15h30. Please check newspapers to confirm time, date, location of the ceremonies as I cannot ensure they are exact.

Dickie Young suffers stroke - doing much better

I have some sad news to report. Dickie Young, long time member of Glenmore and current vice-president, suffered a stroke on Sunday afternoon. He is currently stable and at the Montreal General.

My brother Arthur, won two tickets anywhere Westjet flies by buying raffle tickets from the junior girls team at the awards night, Cafe Glenmore.
He has helped me out with kitchen duty in both the Presidents 'spiel and the St. Patty's Cafe Glenmore.
As I said to Ben... good things come to those who do good.

Glenmore has two teams going to Chicoutimi this Easter weekend to compete in the juvenile section of the Quebec Circuit! They qualified for the finals because of their top 4 showing during the season.

The junior girls team are: Lisa Davies, Alison Davies, Meaghan Hamelin, DaVonne Parsons, and Alysha Parsons.

The junior boys team are Ian South, Daryl South, Danny Rufh-Leclerc, and Felix Asselin.

The winners for the boys and girls will represent Quebec in Winnipeg!

Another great weekend for Glenmore teams

Congrats to Team Tom Wharry for winning the "A" division at the Rosemere Open this past weekend! This was a big cashspiel with $15000 in prize money. Way to go guys! Team Martin Roy was also there, but lost the "C" final, for another good showing.

Lots of Lakeshore results, but congrats to Team Frank Tonchin and Team John Gurman for winning the "D" and "G" sections. Team Stan Fong lost the "A" section final.

Congrats also to Team Caroline Lanthier and to Team Laura Thomas for winning the McCallum Fillies and the Hamilton trophy respectively this past weekend! They go on next weekend to play against Ontario teams.

Congrats to Lois Baines who won yet another senior women's provincial title with Agnes Charette! Congratulations! They will represent QC and the Senior Nationals.

On the senior men's side, Rollie Paquin lost the provincial final after going undefeated the entire week. A tough loss for the former provincial champion.

Fellow Glenmore members,

It is with very deep sadness that I inform you of the passing of long time Glenmore member Bob Savard. Bob was admitted to the hospital for appendicitis this past weekend, but died of a cardiac arrest early this morning.

I know that I speak for all Glenmore members when I send our deepest sympathies to the entire Savard family. Bobby was a truly valued member of the Glenmore Curling Club, a friend to all, and his presence around the club will be dearly missed.

I just received news that today, Jan 16th, there was an 8-ender scored in the Anniversary Competition draw of the Day curlers league. The rare feat was scored by the team skipped by Ray Kalita, 3rd Barry Evans, 2nd Kay Kane and Lead Norman Levasseur in the first end. No need to mention the opponents! :D

Congrats on the 8-ender! Enjoy the 8-ender pin you'll get, and good luck for the Asham 8-ender contest. Hope you win!!!

KURLING FOR KIDS 2007 - A HUGE SUCCESS!!

Hello all,

Kurling for Kids Glenmore edition was a huge success! 64 curlers, over $12000 raised at Glenmore alone! You should all be proud of what you have raised for the children's hospitals of Montreal!

A total of 9 curling clubs and 480 curlers took part in this one of a kind event! Over the years, we raised over $275,000 in funds.

This year, our goal was $125,000...AND WE REACHED IT!!! As of March 31st, we raised $126,000!! With two more weeks to go, we should hopefully reach the $130,000 mark, if not more.

Congrats to our winning team of Ron Edwards, Helen Chanfat, Kevin O'Connor and Bonnie Edwards for taking first place! We'll try to find that annual trophy for you!

Thanks to all the people who helped make today a success! To all the volunteers and kitchen help - THANK YOU! We could not have done it without you.

Special thanks to my KforK partner...RJ Awasthi for doing all that you do for Kurling for Kids, and to our wives Barb and Angie for being there and supporting us!!!

It's been an 18 hour day...and I'm going to bed!

GLENMORE WINS LCA MCCALLUM FILLIES!

Great news for Glenmore, we've won another Canadian Branch event.

The team of Laura Thomas, Maria Santella, Julia Sinclair and Line Gagnon went undefeated and won the McCallum Fillies to become the first team from Glenmore to win this competition. It is for women curlers with 7 years or less of curling experience.
They beat a team from Pembroke, ON in the Quebec/Ontario finals The finals were held at the Carleton Heights Curling Club in Ottawa on March 3, 2007. The team would like to thank Tracy Cameron for sparing for Line Gagnon in the Quebec finals held at Valleyfield.

Senior Provincials!

Hello all,

Just sending out some good wishes to our senior men and women from Glenmore who are participating in the Senior QC Provincials this week.

Glenmore has some great representation in Team Quebec, defending champs Rollie Paquin, Karl Murovic, Lawren Steventon and Mac Baines.

Also qualifying Montreal1 is the team of Vlad Freud and James Maillet with Dave Ingham and Bob Martel (who are all wearing Glenmore jackets by the way, even though they are part of Lachine and TMR).

Also in there is Greg Sleno, playing with Chris Bale out of TMR.

On the ladies' side is Lois Baines and Mary Anne Robertson of Team Quebec, playing with Agnes Charette and Diane Harris.

Good luck to all of our Glenmore players! I hear there's some controversy with the ice already, being played at TWO different venues in Trois Rivieres and Cap de la Madeleine. Let's hope the conditions are ok!

Men's provincials!

The Men's Provincials starts this week and Glenmore is represented by Adam Osseyrane and Martin Roy and Robbie Retchless, all playing with Claude Brazeau Jr. (out of Longue Pointe)

We also have a TMR/Glenmore team being represented (Maxime Dufresne and Jean-Fran�ois Royer).

GLENMORE WINS CLUB OF THE YEAR for 2005-06!!!

Glenmore has been recognized as club of the year for 2006 by Curling Quebec!

The Gala Meritas of Curling Quebec recognizes curling in Quebec and provides several awards in various categories including male and female curlers of the year, team of the year, among others.

Glenmore will receive its award on Saturday Feb 10th at the Men's Provincial championships in Sorel-Tracy.

Congratulations Glenmore!!!

So far, Team Belley is 1 win 1 loss after their first two games. Team Knox has had the tougher road, losing to two prior provincial champions in their first two games.

Junior Girls Qualify for Jeux Du Quebec

Over the past couple of weekends, a Glenmore Junior girls team took part in the qualifying round to represent Lac St Louis at the Jeux De Quebec, and THEY DID IT!!!

With a 10-1 win on Sunday over Mtl West, Glenmore's Junior Girls team Team Davies, with Alison and Lisa Davies, Meaghan Hamelin and Robyn Tsounis, and 5th girl DaVonne Parsons, qualified for the Jeux De Quebec during spring break!

Congrats to Team Davies!!! Way to go!!!

Provincials Fundraising

Hello all!

As you know, two of Glenmore's women's teams have qualified for the QC Provincials, Team Keri Knox and Team Joelle Belley. Each team is trying to raise funds for their week in Sherbooke, site of the championships!

Team Keri Knox is selling raffle tickets to win the hand-made curling-themed quilt which can be seen in the trophy case at the club. Keri, Sandra Monaghan, Guelena Chanchourova, and Dawn Sheppard are all selling tickets! $5 each, $8 for 2 tickets, or $10 for 3 tickets!

Team Joelle Belley will be holding a "spaghetti night" on Friday, January 19th. Signup is already posted at the main entrance. For $10, you'll get a great spaghetti dinner including Caesar salad, bread and dessert! You can't beat that! Come and see Joelle, Agnes Lanthier, Virginie Lessard and Tracey Strunga cook and serve up a storm on the 19th!

Junior Girls Provincial Champions

Congratulations to Team Routledge for winning the Provincial Junior Girls' Championship this week!

They defeated two-time past champions Team Cantin three times to take the championship in a close final!

Congratulations again and good luck at Nationals, February 3rd to 11th in St. Catharines, ON.

Team Knox Qualifies for Ladies Provinicals

Congratulations to Team Keri Knox, with skip Keri Knox, third Sandra Monaghan, 2nd Guelena Chanchourova, and lead Dawn Sheppard for qualifying for the Women's Provincials on Sunday afternoon! They beat out another Glenmore team, Team Cindy Kyle, with Cindy, Debbie DeRoy, Angie Kyle, and Kendra Griffiths, in the 'C' final.

Congrats ladies! Way to go!

Women's Playdowns...

Congrats to Team Joelle Belley with Agnes Lanthier, Virginie Lessard, and Tracey Strunga for qualifying for the Women's Provincials to be held in Sherbrooke this January 2007. They qualified by having collected enough points on the Circuit Provincial.

In addition, five more teams ( of which three are from Glenmore) will be competing this weekend to capture one of three spots for the women's provincials. The Glenmore teams are Team Cindy Kyle, Team Keri Knox, and Team Gail Moorcroft. Let's hope all three Glenmore teams qualify!!!

Brownsburg Colts Bonspiel

Congrats to Team RJ Awasthi for winning the 'A' final at the Brownsburg Colts bonspiel this past weekend! RJ played with Carl Gagnon, and two Colts players from Longue Pointe. It's the team's 2nd 'A' section final in two attempts!

And Team Marc Don won the 'B' final, with Randy White, Jeremy Labrecque and Dickie Young.

Way to go guys!

POWER OUTAGE - PRESIDENT'S BONSPIEL

Due to the power outage at the club on Friday evening, Dec 1st, the first game of the President's Bonspiel has been cancelled. It is now a two game points bonspiel.

The bonspiel will commence at 9:30 AM on Saturday Dec 2nd.

Challenge Casino de Charlevoix

There were seven (count them, 7!) Glenmore teams represented at the Challege Casino de Charlevoix this past weekend.

Congratulations to Team Sylvain Proulx for finishing runner-up in the A event, coming from far behind but losing a nail-biter to Yan Belleau and Jean Gagnon.

More congratulations to Martin Roy and his team for winning the D event.

Let's hope Glenmore teams can continue to play outstanding curling this season!

Valleyfield Open

This weekend, Nov 9 to 12, the annual Circuit Provincial finals will be held in Trois-Rivieres. To qualify for this event, you need to finish in the top 16 teams (in prize money won) from last season, and the top 8 for seniors and women.

Glenmore has FOUR teams going to this prestigious event, one in men's, one in senior's, and two in women's. We wish them all the best of luck!

CBC News Live at Glenmore

The CBC News will be aired live from Glenmore Curling Club on Wednesday, November 15th, 2006 at 6:00pm.

We would like to see around 75 members and guests at the club before 6pm to participate in the community-involved broadcast. From 6:30pm to 7:00pm, there will be an open forum to discuss subjects relevant to West Island communities.

Obituary - Ana Fiandrino

Hello Glenmore members,

I'm very sad to report that Ana Fiandrino, wife of Pierangelo, passed away on Monday Oct 9 after a long battle with cancer.

Ana was a member of Glenmore for several years, and was very kind and good-hearted. She leaves behind a loving husband and family, and many friends at Glenmore.

No details yet on the visitation/funeral. They will be posted on this forum once they are known.

The Ice is ready for practice

Hope this doesn't lead to a stampede!
The ice is ready and available for practice.
When removing the hacks, be careful, they are a bit stiff (not unlike the curler who hasn't thrown a rock since last season)
Make sure you clean the rocks well as there is some residual granite dust from the reconditioning.
