In keeping with GLENMORE's commitment to promote the OLYMPIC SPORT of curling, the club operates a "LITTLE ROCKS" league for children of all ages. Regular curling rocks weigh more than 40 pounds, (almost heavier than some of these young curlers), so the club has purchased rocks that are more proportional to the curler's size, whence the name "LITTLE ROCKS". This league is organised by an instructor assisted by many parents.
Because of the wide variety of ability, age and size of the curlers, the format of the LITTLE ROCKS is varied; children are taught the basics of the game but are mostly encouraged to appreciate and enjoy the action of curling. For the younger curlers, there are fun games ( hit the bowling pin, aim for the clown etc.); for the more "serious" LITTLE ROCKS, there can be parent/child games. All this and more for just $50 for the season.
LITTLE ROCKS play on Sundays from 9am to 11am.
Even in our young curlers, the taste for competition is evident. Several local clubs have formed a LITTLE ROCKS league and some of our curlers will then compete against LITTLE ROCKS from other clubs. In some cases, the smaller rocks are used, while in other cases the players insist on playing with the real thing.
Prizes and trophies seem to be an integral part of competition and "LITTLE ROCKS" is no exception. Winners of the inter-club competition do vie for trophies, and those others who do not compete will nonetheless finish the year with their own "trophies".
For the 2004-2005 season, the LITTLE ROCKS league co-ordinators are Nancy Harvey and Larry South. They can be reached at the club (684-6350), or at home (620-7433).
